This large bronze sculpture (Big Rumi) is another striking example of Ghada Amer’s public art installations in the United States. The latticework of Big Rumi is formed by the repetition of a quote (in Arabic) attributed to the 13th century mystic poet, Rumi and that translates into: “You are what you seek” or “What you seek is seeking you.”
This installation is the artist’s first collaboration with the Institute of Arab and Islamic Art (IAIA) in New York. Curated by Mohammed Rashid Al-Thani, director of the Institute, it marks the inauguration of the IAIA’s public art program.
